The rock band Coldplay is selling out venues all over the U.S. and their music is embraced by young people like few other recent bands.

During a BBC interview, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe asked the Coldplay frontman "Is it true?" to all the rumors that Coldplay were recording new music.

Martin confirmed the heresay, saying the band had recorded an EP, titled 'Prospects March,' which will be released on December 26th.

Martin, joined by bandmate Will Champion, also told Stipe the band will release a new album in November of 2009 "to end the decade."

The two bands have been friends for some time, with Stipe having given his full blessing to the UK chart-toppers.

"For me, having been around for 28 years, doing this, I'm thrilled when a band like Coldplay come along," Stipe said.

Coldplay are lauching a contest that would allow unknown acts to support the band on select dates of their upcoming North American 'Viva La Vida' tour.

By uploading one video -- not to exceed five minutes in length and consisting of solely original material -- hopefuls are in the running for a 20-minute opening slot, a $2,000 payout and ten tickets to the show for friends and family.

Participating market entry details can be had online, but bands may wish to act fast as the submission periods for three of the gigs are already underway.

Sadly, that nugget was left off of Chris Martin and Co.'s new album, 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends,' due June 17. "Kylie is particularly brilliant on it," Martin added.

In related news, Coldplay announced plans today to broadcast their June 16th live show at London's Brixton Academy live on BBC Radio 1.
